Let’s get the clickbait out of the way, Rob Gronkowski is not going to the WWE…yet. He is going to return to the New England Patriots for at least one more season because he is a competition junky and while I love WWE and pro wrestling there is no substitute for the competition of the National Football League. Gronk will eventually find his way to the WWE because while he is a competition junky he is also a party boy and right now the WWE is a party that Gronk is looking at from the outside; he will eventually find his way into that party one way or another. Now, the WWE covets Gronk as a big marketable name but we need to be honest about how the value him as a wrestler, he’s not going to be putting on 5-star matches with AJ Styles and he’s not going to be the next WrestleMania hurdle between Roman Reigns and Hulk Hogan status. The WWE is going to put Rob Gronkowski in simple storylines where he won’t have to carry a narrative week in and week out, he’ll have beef with a mid-card act, show up occasionally, before destroying them at a major PPV event (WrestleMania, Royal Rumble, Money in the Bank, SummerSlam, and Survivor Series). So let’s take a look at 5 realistic feuds for Gronks initial WWE run.
Jinder Mahal- The Modern Day Mahārāja! This is the most obvious feud for Gronk to enter the WWE with, as Gronk had a scuffle with Mahal during the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 33, an event that put Gronk on the map for many WWE fans. Mahal has gone through a career year since then; going from a former member of 3MB, the Great Khali’s brother in law, a former NXT championship contender, a bunch of titles bound to mean nothing to the less than casual viewer the WWE is bound to grab with the addition of Gronk, to WWE World Heavyweight Champion. The story will be easy to tell, they have beef and Gronk is here to continue it and Mahal gets to tell Gronk since their showdown last year he’s won a world title while Gronk lost the big game.
Mojo Rawley- If Gronk is going to end up in the WWE it will be in large part to real-life friend and former NFL defensive lineman Mojo Rawley (who has recently said the Gronkowski family played a big role in him joining the WWE). This feud would be the classic story of friends turned enemies, while Rawley would initial be thrilled to have his good friend with him in the WWE he would soon get jealous that Rob outshined him in the NFL and is now about to do the same in the WWE.
Baron Corbin- Another former NFL player for Gronk to feud with; if Baron Corbin, a former offensive lineman had played on the defensive side of the ball he would be the complete opposite of Gronkowski. He’s dark, no-nonsense, lone wolf, he’s the perfect wrestler to hate Gronk just because he’s Gronk. Corbin can also fight a brawling style of match which could highlight Gronk size and power while hiding his lack of training.
The Miz- The Miz would be the highest profile feud for Gronk on this list as The Miz is one of the most mainstream appealing full-time WWE stars (a successful MTV career, the star of The Marine franchise, and his own E! reality series coming soon) as well as being one of the more successful in-ring competitors in the WWE today. There are three main factors working in favor of this feud, the first being The Miz is a go-to superstar for the WWE when celebrities are involved with appearances on Conan and an in-ring showdown with The Ball Family. Second, The Miz is considered one of the safer WWE workers and with Gronk’s injury history and the money invested in him, the WWE will definitely want him working with someone that can keep him healthy. Finally, The Miz is one of the best talkers in the WWE and his promo skills could both protect Gronk’s lack of acting skills and help build a story even if Gronk isn’t appearing weekly. Working against this feud is The Miz being so valuable to the WWE on a weekly basis and as the Intercontinental champion that he may be wasted waiting around for Gronk to show up every few weeks.
Titus Worldwide- Titus O’Neil found a bit of a career resurgence as the owner of Titus Worldwide Brand, acting as manager, agent, and spokesperson of sorts for various superstars. Titus Worldwide has since become more of a tag team with him and his client Apollo (formally Apollo Crews) but Titus was at his best when he was trying to convince WWE stars to sign with his brand. With mainstream star Gronk signing with WWE it would make sense for Titus to try to sign him to Titus Worldwide, leading to a feud of Titus and Apollo versus Gronk when Gronk turns him down.
